Chattel

An item of tangible moveable property, not attached or fixed to land, whose ownership is capable of being granted or assigned to another person.

Such property can include furniture, vehicles, any item of personal property, or animals. (The word “chattel” shares its ancestry with that of “cattle”.)

However, anything fixed to land is a fixture, not a chattel.

A chattel can be left or deposited with a bailee, and may thus become the subject of a lien.
