Last month the ICLR hosted a team of editors and reporters from the Botswana Law Reports on a week-long educational trip to London. ICLR staff provided training and shared information on all aspects of the reporting, editing, publishing, and IT aspects of the business.
There were also visits to the Royal Courts of Justice and Supreme Court, meetings with senior judiciary and library staff, and lunches in the Inns of Court, as well as an opportunity for more general sight-seeing in the capital.
The image above shows a meeting with Lord Justice Dingemans, Lead Judge for International Relations (centre), at the RCJ, with Kevin Laws, CEO of ICLR. (Photo kindly supplied by the Judicial Office.)
The team from Botswana comprised:
- Motlalepula Setlai, Editor
- Linda Awuor, Deputy Editor
- Loeto Morapedi, Chief Reporter
- Gosego Linchwe, Principal Reporter
Here they are with the Editor, Brendan Wright, and law reporters Matthew Brotherton, Catherine May and Agatha Barta, for lunch in Middle Temple Hall:
The Botswana Law Reports date back to 1964 but their production is currently outsourced to the South African firm, Juta. That is set to change, and the accessible content brought up to date, when functions previously carried out by the Legislative Division of the Attorney General’s office are taken over by the official Law Reporting Unit in Botswana.
ICLR is a non-profit body founded by members of the legal professions in 1865 to support legal education and the administration of justice, and is the official publisher of The Law Reports for England and Wales. As an organisation ICLR has considerable experience in all aspects of law reporting and the publication process, both in print and online. In conjunction with the Lead Judge for International Relations and the Judicial Office, ICLR also helps promote the international rule of law and legal education around the world.
